NEW YEAR 2017. I encourage parents, educators, schools, garden clubs, civic groups to order free seed catalogs; they're excellent teaching resources!

If I had a class of students, I would send the list of FREE SEED CATALOGS home so parents can order for rainy day reading. This is free education at it's best, in my humble opinion.

If we can inspire children (and adults) to learn about nutrition, biodiversity and self-sustaining agriculture, perhaps they will learn to make more intelligent food choices and promote healthier living. I have read many seed catalogs in their entirety. I believe and hope future generations will come to understand how wonderful growing our own organic food and saving seed truly is. My daughter Ava understood what a seed was long before her second birthday. It is never too early to give the gift of gardening to our babies.

Let us also teach our children what an heirloom vegetable is, how to save seeds, and which seeds can even be saved! Have fun. Grow something and happy harvesting!

Home Composting. FREE Workshops in 2012. So easy, even Oscar The Grouch can do it...

The best way to amend poor soil is to start your very own garden compost! Toss nutrient rich kitchen scraps into the compost pile, instead of into the garbage can. Be kind to Mother Earth, and reduce waste. The Environmental Protection Agency has great composting information on their website.

There are many Bay Area Workshops on how easy home composting really is. Even if you live in an apartment, a small worm box can do the job! Rural Renaissance...

In February, we spent a fun day with a lovely family, authors Lisa Kivirist, John Ivanko and their son, Liam. If we ever visit Wisconsin, we'll have to vacation at their B & B and play on the farm. For now, I can only read their book and dream of leaving city life behind . . .

Good Morning Sunshine and friends of The Lemon Lady,

A simple request. Please save gallon milk jugs. Rinse them thoroughly after use, and save the lids too. My gardening project can leap to greater bounds if I have more milk jugs. I'm growing and inspiring others to grow all over Concord, Clayton, Walnut Creek and Alamo.

Seedlings are being supplied to four community gardens, so I can always use more help with my volunteer seedling donation project. For those who don't have time to volunteer...how about saving a few milk jugs for me? Thank you kindly.

Anna was recognized this weekend by the California Garden Clubs, Inc., here's why she was chosen for the award....

for service to community; for promoting the benefits of gardening; for tireless efforts to bring fresh, nutritious fruit to Contra Costa County's needy; and for dedication to furthering the goals held in common with the members of California Garden Clubs, Inc.

We first talked about Anna back in February, and since then she's been in the Clayton Pioneer, the Concordian, the Contra Costa Times, Diablo Magazine, on ABC7-TV & KGO-Radio, and I heard she might soon be in the Chronicle. She's also been mentioned countless times on "Mister Writer's" blog, as well as on "Crazy in Suburbia"

Listen to this! Since February, Anna and her daughter have collected over $60,000 in fresh fruit, and every single piece of it has gone to the people in our community who need it the most. I'm truly honored to call Anna my friend.

Anna's a wonderful person with a heart of gold, and we thank her for all she does for our community.

Thank you for visiting my website. You will find interesting information about local gardens I am donating time and supplies. I originally started all my volunteer projects as a self-funded, one-woman campaign against hunger.

In my adventures, I have met the most fascinating, kind and generous folks. Hundreds of neighbors have donated fresh, locally grown produce through my harvesting efforts, exceeding 9,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables since February.

I am thrilled to make acquaintances with the local Garden Clubs. One very important way you can help is to grow vegetable seedlings for donation to many community gardens around Contra Costa County. I can assure you, the need for donated seedlings will never run out. Children and families will delight in homegrown, nutritious produce year-round.

Another simple garden craft project that I have assembled, and you can too. Cups filled with potting soil wrapped in plastic wrap, a few seeds of different vegetables with stick markers to give to children. We can use unlimited amounts of those. I have crafted several hundred for donation already, and would definitely appreciate the help to deliver more around town.

I also have a need for nasturtium seeds! Please save those.
